What is the best AWD SUV for PA winters?

How to pick

For Pennsylvania winters, the feature that matters most is all-wheel drive, which drives all four wheels for steadier traction when the roads turn to snow or ice. AWD is available across several Chevy and Buick SUVs, so the smart approach is to pick the size you need first, then choose the AWD version. Want compact and efficient? An AWD Equinox. Need three rows for the family? An AWD Traverse. Want a more upscale compact? An AWD Envision. AWD helps you get moving and stay planted, though good winter tires and careful driving still matter.

The honest read

All-wheel drive is a real advantage in our winters, but it is not magic: it helps you accelerate and hold the road in snow, while braking and cornering still depend on your tires and your speed. So the best AWD SUV is the right-sized SUV with AWD and, ideally, proper winter or all-season tires. Start from how many seats and how much cargo you need, add AWD, and you will be well set for the season here.

Why buy it at Crivelli

Crivelli Chevrolet Buick carries AWD Chevy and Buick SUVs new and used and services whatever you buy in its own certified department, which can also fit and rotate your winter tires. It is a 37-year family store in Mount Pleasant, a multiple-time GM Mark of Excellence winner including 2025, with financing on-site. Live inventory is at crivellichev.com or 724-547-2200.

Coming from Somerset or the Laurel Highlands? Somerset gets real snow, and Crivelli is about 40 minutes west on Route 31. Pair AWD or 4x4 with a good set of winter or all-weather tires, and choose a 4x4 Silverado or Colorado if you tow, plow, or run unplowed back roads. See the Chevy and Buick dealer near Somerset page for the drive.
